Terms of Service for web hosting and web services provided by Robert Lawson Brown.

The following terms for effective for all web hosting and web services provided by Robert Lawson Brown, as of January 1, 2021, for both existing and new engagements.

Designation of Developer and Clients

In this document, the terms "I", "myself", or "me", refers to the web developer Robert Lawson Brown, under whose Google Workspace account the web hosting and services are provided. The term "client(s)" refers to those persons and entities for whom the web hosting and services are provided. The term "personal users" refer to clients who are unincorporated groups, and individuals known personally to me, and who have been offered services by me. The term "non-profit organizations" refers to clients who are incorporated non-profit organizations or non-profit businesses. The term "business users" refers to clients who are for-profit businesses or professionals.

Personal Users

For personal users, the terms of service are that no expectation in terms of monetary support or time or participation is placed on the general users, and similarly the expectation of the personal users for my efforts and web provisioning will be as best as I can accomodate. Essentially, for personal users, the work is a gift for their needs, which the client may or may not choose to contribute work or payment of some costs.

Non-profit Organizations

For non-profit organizations the terms of service are that I will maintain the websites and services desired by the organizations, to a mutually agreed reasonable level of design, deployment, operation, uptime, and maintanence, in exchange for minor reimbusement of expenses, making no net revenue for myself. Essentially, for non-profit Organizations, the work is provided at-cost or below-cost or free for their needs. The level of service and reimbusements are negotiated by means of an exchange of letters between myself and each such organization. Whether stated in such letters or not, it is understood that there is no liability is incurred by me for interruption or termination of services, with or without notice. Similarly, no promise of the effectiveness, e.g. in marketing, of the websites and applications is provided. Failure to meet the terms of the mutual agreement by either party will simply terminate the agreement with no liability on either side.

Business Users

For business uses the terms of service are that I will maintain the websites and services desired by the organizations, to a mutually agreed reasonable level of design, deployment, operation, uptime, and maintanence, in exchange for a mutually agreed fee, detailed in an exchange of letters between myself and the client. Whether stated in such letters or not, it is understood that the liability incurred by me for interruption or termination of services, with or without notice, is limited to the withholding of the fee, and potential termination of the agreement. No promise of the effectiveness, e.g. in marketing, of the websites and applications is provided. The agreement may be terminated by the client at any time, or by me with a one month notice. In the event of termination of the agreement, as a courtesy I will help the client find new or alternative venues for the client's web requirements, over a period of one month following the termination.
